Another Father’s Day has come and gone and with that, so has another Pennsylvania State Trapshoot. Every year the PA shoot begins the weekend prior to, and finishes the weekend of, Father’s Day.
Having grown up as a trapshooter from Pennsylvania, Elysburg and the PSSA Homegrounds have always felt like home to me. Some of the best friendships in my life have been started at that club and continue to this day. No matter where life has taken me – college, internships, work – I’ve always managed to return for the state shoot. Some years it was the only shoot I was able to attend. For two friends in particular, this year’s shoot is their first, and likely only, shoot of the year. We all traveled from various parts of the country (and the world) to be there.
Something about this year in particular made me stop and think not only about my friends and family, but how many other people are in the same situation…..trapshooting is engrained in our lives. And there isn’t much that can change that. Let’s commit to making sure nothing gets in the way of our sport’s growth.
I’m sure there are plenty of other situations like mine. We’d all love to hear about them. Please tell your story in the comments section.
