Year after year (45, to be exact!) the folks from the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission host one of the largest junior and senior high school trapshoots in the country. 2014 was no different as over 2,300 high school aged kids set a new all-time attendance record. The shoot was held at the Nebraska Trapshooting Association’s homegrouds in Doniphan, NE and open to any kids from 6th-12th grade. Junior high shooters fired at 100 16 yard targets, while high schoolers were limited to 75 16 yard targets and 75 handicap targets.
Due to the large crowd, shoot management decided to implement a very unique concept to the trapshooting game – a time limit for each round. With a time limit of 55 minutes, junior high shooters had to complete their 100 targets, while the high schoolers had only a 45 minute time limit for each round of 75. These are very short windows to complete a round for even the most experienced trapshooters, let alone some newbies to the sport!
2014 attendance included the following:
JUNIORS: 933 SENIORS: 1,461
GRAND TOTAL: 2,394
Nearly 100 prizes and awards were given to winning participants in the high school, junior high school, and ladies divisions during the three day event.
